What is a Diamond Certificate?
The term “certified diamonds” refers to polished diamonds that have undergone quality analysis by a trusted gemological laboratory such as GIA (Gemological Institute of America) and have been issued a lab report, commonly referred to as a “certificate.” The certificate provides a comprehensive evaluation of a gemstone’s quality and characteristics like the 4Cs, using a variety of techniques, including visual inspection, gemological testing, and analysis of the stone’s physical and chemical properties.
Having a certified diamond gives you peace of mind in the authenticity and quality of the stone you are buying. If you ever decide to resell or upgrade your diamond, having a certificate will make it easier to determine its value and authenticity. There are several different grading laboratories in the world that provide diamond certifications. However, GIA is considered the more prestigious and established institution, with a reputation for being the industry standard for diamond grading, and their certificates are widely recognized and respected around the world. GIA also has the most stringent grading standards in the industry.
A predominant amount of lab grown diamonds are certified through other grading laboratories with less stringent standards which is why those diamonds are considered to be of lesser quality and value. Rare Diamond’s lab grown diamonds will always come with a certification from GIA so you can feel confident that your diamond will be of the highest value and quality.
